The works of English author P.G. Wodehouse were not considered popular during his time. Modernism, which was then on the rise, ran counter to his comic works. Only his use of language and narrative self-conscious could be characterised as modernist. Otherwise, his works had all the elements of traditional comedy such as the eiron and alazon characters, disorganized flow of experience, intelligibility, simplicity of characters and the use of nature.
