P.G. Wodehouse -- the Shakespeare of golf storytellers -- wrote with pithy wisdom about a foursome he admired: "They were real golfers, for real golf is a thing of the spirit, not of mere mechanical excellence of stroke."
At the U.S. Senior Open at Congressional Country Club, many of those flavoring the fairways with real golf were players who came onto the over-50 tour with a reservoir of other overs: overflow energy, overdrive work habits and overwhelming zeal for the opportunities of a competitive Second Coming. At the core of these things of the spirit is golf's prime intangible -- desire.
