P. G. Wodehouse died in 1975, at the age of 93, having written 92 novels and story collections, the most familiar of which feature the endearing chump Bertie Wooster and his unflappable butler, Jeeves. Sebastian Faulks considers them to be "the best English comic novels of the century," and writers from Evelyn Waugh and George Orwell to Frank McCourt and Ben Elton have praised not only Wodehouse's comic genius but also his impeccable craftsmanship.
