"Youth fades; love droops; the leaves of friendship fall," wrote Oliver Wendell Holmes, but "a mother's secret hope outlives them all."

The power of maternal love was the point, well made, in Chantilly High School's recent performance of "I Remember Mama." Based on a novel by Kathryn Forbes, it's the story of Katrin, a successful writer, recalling her youth in a Norwegian family in San Francisco at the turn of the 20th century, when she was 16.
