Oliver Wendell Holmes once called the Massachusetts State House "the hub of the solar system," which over time and by extension became a nickname for the city of Boston. Beantown was again a hub, last week, as people poured into town from across the state and throughout the country to help sway the decision of a legislature debating the future of gay marriage. Arriving by the thousands were supporters and opponents of gay marriage, and both groups came bearing babies and Bibles. They both sang hymns. They both waved the flag. They both carried signs. They both held vigils and prayer circles.
