What do America's professors of language and literature talk about when they get together? John Milton? Edgar Allan Poe? William Shakespeare and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe? Well, yes, they do, but not in ways you might expect or hope. They do not, for instance, discuss these great writers in a way to deepen our appreciation and love for fine writing and storytelling. Far from it.
