John Milton Sutherland, Jr., departed this life on December 15, 2007 at the age of 92. He was the son of the late John Milton (Munsey) Sutherland, Sr. and Jessie Marsh Sutherland and was preceded in death by his sisters, June Shockley, Vivian Price and Maxine Jones. After graduation, he worked at the Central Drug Store and Wythe County Motors as a parts clerk. He married Shirley Grubb in 1941. In 1944, he was drafted into the Army, serving overseas in the European Theater. While serving there, he was captured by the Germans and was held four and a half months. Returning to the U.
