Baltimore, Md.: Academy Award-winner Olympia Dukakis will play the Mother of Them All in a staged reading of Constance Congdon's new adaptation of Maxim Gorky's socialist-realist A Mother on Feb. 27 at Baltimore's Center Stage. Dukakis's star turn as Vassa Zheleznova, an uneducated working woman whose gradual awakening to the class nature of society issues from a desire to protect her only son, is Center Stage's contribution to Baltimore's "Vivat! St. Petersburg" festival, a winter celebration of Russian theatre, music, art and culture that runs Feb. 13-March 2.
