Lancaster Literary Guild director Betsy Hurley has always been active in reading and writing.
At the former Stratford College, Danville, Va., she was editor of the literary journal and won a collegiate creative writing award.
After graduating with a degree in English in 1974, Hurley went to work as a reporter at a weekly Virginia newspaper, where she got the chance to interview Martin Luther King Sr. She remembers being in the room with King and two other reporters, when King took her hand in his palm.
