Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, and here are some area observances to mark the legacy of the civil rights era reformer and spiritual leader:

The City of Charleston is hosting a celebration at 6 p.m. Friday at Capitol Center Theater, 123 Summers St. Scheduled to participate are Martin Staunton, Nicole Yonkosky, New Covenant Choir and Greater Emmanuel Mime Group. Call 348-6880.

The West Virginia Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission and the state Division of Culture and History are sponsoring a gala performance at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Cultural Center Theater, state Capitol Complex. ...
