Several local events over a three-day period are scheduled to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Sunday events:

. A Martin Luther King Jr. birthday commemoration is scheduled 4- 7 p.m. at the Bangor Y, 127 Hammond St., co-sponsored by the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine. The event is free and open to the public and will feature a video on King, a discussion afterward led by University of Maine philosophy professor Douglas Allen, songs with Voices for Peace, and a potluck supper.
