LONG BEACH - More than 40 years after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his historic "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, the civil rights leader is still hailed for his message of peace and equality.

Monday would have been King's 78th birthday, and there are plenty of events and celebrations in the Southland to commemorate the day.

On Saturday, Long Beach will hold its 19th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Parade and Celebration, with Kool & the Gang and other performers taking part in the festivities.
