A 83-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition after she was hit Tuesday about 4 p.m. by an Amtrak train, near Embarcadero and Broadway in Oakland's Jack London Square area.
It appears the woman was crossing the tracks and didn't notice the oncoming train, but police are still investigating the incident, said Oakland Police Lt. Kenny Whitman.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital.
