RE: "PESKY preferential parking," the June 23 letter about parking in the Jack London district:

The proposed rate of $100 per year was for a permit to park in the district. Certainly not preferential, and definitely not guaranteed.

Had the city required the lofts and apartments to be built with adequate parking inside, the situation would be more tolerable in the district.

Like the letter writer, business owners and residents of the neighborhood were looking for a fair solution that would allow us the same rights as those who live in Rockridge, where they buy permits for $15 per year ...
