OAKLAND -- Attracting revelers to Jack London Square has always been a problem for city and port leaders.

Rob and Mollie Harris lent a helping hand with an innovative concept that turned idle boats into cash-producing inns.

For less than the cost of staying in a fancy San Francisco hotel, the Harrises offered a glimpse into the life of a private yacht owner.

In the 15 years since they launched Dockside Boat and Bed, the Harrises attracted hundreds of customers who wanted the experience of staying a night on a private yacht. And in the process, the couple brought business to Jack London ...
