Kayaking race to benefit camps Five courses at Jack London Square cater to different skill levels

OAKLAND -- Even if you have never kayaked the rapids of Costa Rica, or canoed through the rivers of Montana, the California Canoe & Kayak Race for Treasure welcomes paddlers of all skill levels.

The 10th annual kayak race will take place Saturday at the foot of Broadway in Jack London Square.

Proceeds from the race will go to the City of Oakland's Lake Merritt Camp Scholarship Fund which sponsored 50 children to attend Mariner Day Camp last year. The camp provides young people a safe place to learn boating skills and the importance of marine ecosystems to the environment.
