Standoff ends peacefully near Jack London Square

OAKLAND -- An armed man holding a woman and two children hostage in an apartment complex near Jack London Square surrendered peacefully to police at 4 a.m. Saturday, hours after the incident began, authorities said.

The woman and the children, ages 3 and 7, were unharmed.

Police set up a four-block barricade between Second and Fifth streets on Oak Street after responding at 7:30 p.m. Friday to a domestic dispute call involving the woman and her boyfriend.
