Saldana brings Mexican flair to Jack London Square

A FEW years ago, Lito Saldana was eating with his wife at Jack London Square's Pizzeria SFO.

"This is a great location," he told her. "I'd really like to have a restaurant here."

Voila. His Cocina Poblana opened 10 days ago where the pizzeria once stood.

With Cocina Poblana locations in Emeryville and San Francisco, Saldana has turned these modern Mexican restaurants into a growing Bay Area chain.

The interior is a colorful, airy space with tile mosaics and tin accents. Guests can eat at the tortilla bar while watching the tortilla press in action. An outdoor patio begs for warmer weather.
