Jack London's life was a meteor that entered the atmosphere with such speed and ferocity, it's no wonder there was nothing left but ashes at his grave.

In his 40 years, he penned classic literature, chronicled the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire, sailed the South Pacific on the Snark, explored the Yukon and wrote of wars in faraway lands.

The same man found time to be a farmer, pursue politics, correspond with thousands of fans and negotiate advances from publishers. But just when it appeared a soft landing was in store for the last chapter of his life, London fell ill with kidney ...
