he new Eddie Murphy comedy "Dr. Dolittle" wants to mix "The Nutty Professor" with "Babe." But unless you are one of those people who can never get enough butt jokes, the result may turn out to be the longest 85 minutes of your life.

Dr. Dolittle, who can talk to animals, was created by British author Hugh Lofting, a World War I veteran who attended MIT and lived most of his life in the United States. His fictional zoophile seems to have been an outgrowth of the pro-animal movement of ...
