It's a bad sign any time that Eddie Murphy allows himself to be upstaged by an animatronic guinea pig. Based on the series of children's stories by Hugh Lofting about a physician who can talk to animals, the disappointing "Dr. Dolittle" relegates the gifted comic to the role of straight man to a nattering Noah's ark of furred and feathered smart alecks, including a white and brown rodent named Rodney (manically voiced by Chris Rock).
