AT FIRST, I thought this might be the long-overdue biopic of seemingly immortal Play Your Cards Right host Bruce Forsythe. But this lavish period drama begins in 1874, by which time Brucie was already in his mid-twenties. Instead, it's an audacious attempt by ITV to try and videotape over people's extremely fond memories of the original 1967 BBC effort, which was - heads up trivia fans! - the first ever British serial to be considered worth buying by the Soviet Union.
Based on the novels of John Galsworthy, The Forsyte Saga was also the last major Beeb drama ...
