39 Steps and still climbing ; Tiny production of Buchan classic is heading for 20 more countries

IT may not have the glamour of some West End shows but The 39 Steps is proving a sleeper hit that will be seen in nearly 20 countries worldwide within a year.

The comic adaptation of John Buchan's novelturned-Hitchcock movie is still packing them in at the Criterion, Piccadilly, to where it transferred from the Tricycle, Kilburn, in 2006 after rave reviews.

A touring production is currently in Brighton, there are versions in Italy and South Africa and the show opens on Broadway tonight.
