Three High Point Central seniors were recognized Friday for having proved they can overcome adversity to succeed.

Kendra Penry, Thomas Thekkekandam and Erin Grundman are recipients of Horatio Alger Scholarships. The scholarships are awarded to students based on academic achievement, community involvement, financial need and overcoming personal obstacles to reach success.

A formal ceremony, including a choral performance and presentation from the Junior ROTC, honored their achievements.
