Girls under the gum; Early planting part of college history

A Nelson College for Girls' gum tree is listed as a notable tree, with information about its history included on the Notable Trees of New Zealand website.

It says the tree was planted by Mrs Henry Adams, probably between 1854 and 1857, along with others which were possibly planted along Bronte St.

They were planted on property bought in January 1854 by Mrs Adams' husband, Henry Adams, one of Nelson's earliest lawyers.
