An opera about Washington romance and political intrigue in the 1870s, based on a novel by a descendant of two early presidents, will have its premiere in the capital city.

The novel "Democracy" was an early work of Henry Adams, a historian and man of letters who was a grandson of President John Quincy Adams and great grandson of President John Adams. He is best known for his autobiographical "The Education of Henry Adams."
