One hundred years of children's literature is celebrated in this touring National Portrait Gallery exhibition of paintings, drawings, photographs, sculpture and ephemera, which chronicle the development of the genre, from the first Potter (Beatrix's Peter Rabbit was published in 1901), to J K Rowling's block-busting boy wizard series.

Selected for their literary merit and popularity, subjects include major names such as Kenneth Grahame, C S Lewis, Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl, and writers who are less well-known than their work, such as the Rev W Awdry (above left, with his son and co-writer ...
