Wildlife experts are urging people to be on the lookout for vulnerable water voles which are in danger of disappearing from rivers and brooks.
The rodents - brought to life by Ratty, Kenneth Grahame's loveable character in The Wind In The Willows - are facing extinction.
Now Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is calling on people living near Uttoxeter's waterways to keep an eye out for the little creatures.
Uttoxeter's Tory politicians, who have been touched by the plight of the animals, have responded by setting up a Vole Watch scheme on Picknall Brook, which runs through JCB's Heavy Products site.
