Maggie Tulliver is torn between lovers in "Mobil Masterpiece Theatre's" new version of George Eliot's "The Mill on the Floss."

Tonight at 9 on PBS, this two-hour film starring Emily Watson launches the 27th season of the "Masterpiece" series on PBS.

"The Mill on the Floss" has an idyllic setting, a 150-year-old mill on a river in Norwalk, England. There the producers found the pivotal character in Eliot's 1860 novel -- the flour mill, which grinds by using the power of the river Floss.
