Part Two, Chapter One

Sixteen years have passed. Eppie is about eighteen years old and Silas
is about fifty-five. It is a bright autumn Sunday in Raveloe and we see the
villagers coming out of the old church across the street from the Red House.
Godfrey Cass, one of the most important men in Raveloe, is among the first to
leave. With him, is his pretty wife, Nancy. They have been married for
fifteen years but have no children. The Squire has died and his inheritance
has been divided among his sons; all except Dunstan, ...
