IT was rather surprising to talk to a lady in the Borders who had never heard of George McDonald Fraser, nor by the same token read any of his books.

What a sad loss, and her claiming to be a great reader and all.

Should there be any more of you out there who are of her ilk, then I can only beg you to change your ways, and to collect and read all and any of his books you can lay your hands on. He will not be writing any more for the very good reason that he has been "gathered" at a ripe old age.
