THE novelist George MacDonald Fraser, author of the popular Flashman series of adventure stories, has died at the age of 82.
The former soldier, who passed away after a battle with cancer, worked as a journalist for the Herald newspaper, then known as the Glasgow Herald, for many years.
Colleagues from the newspaper hailed him as "the journalist of his generation in Scotland".
Fraser worked in various roles at the paper, including as a sub-editor and in the features department, and rose to become deputy editor, before quitting journalism to become a full-time author ...
