BLACK AJAX By George MacDonald Fraser Carroll & Graf. 256 pp. $23 It was inevitable that George MacDonald Fraser would occasionally pause in the Flashman series. To my knowledge, there have been 10 of these amusing historical novels, based on the memoirs of the fictional bully from "Tom Brown's Schooldays," a poltroon masquerading hilariously as a hero.
