Presley:

Many events in the novel are reported through Presley's eyes and many of
the reader's reactions, opinions and loyalties are determined by his. He is
not, however, the hero or protagonist of the book in a conventional sense,
because he is usually little more than an observer. Often he presents the
author's point of view, introducing concepts into the novel, as opposed to
other characters who usually illustrate concepts dramatically. Presley is
responsible for very little dramatic action.
