THE BBC's Wives And Daughters had the last word in its fierce battle with ITV period drama rival Oliver Twist, picking up two prestigious broadcasting awards at a London ceremony.
BBC1's adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's classic novel won best drama serial and best actress for its leading lady Justine Waddell at today's Broadcasting Press Guild Awards, while the ITV drama failed to win in any category.
