It may seem like a long time since the spring, but for the people of Lacock, near Chippenham, the BBC's flagship period costume drama for the autumn, Cranford, is bringing back happy memories of the weeks when stars including Dame Judi Dench came to town.
The series, which continues tomorrow night on BBC1, is based on the novels of Elizabeth Gaskell set in a fictional Cheshire town. But it was the picturesque Cotswold village that was chosen to represent Cranford - primarily because, as much of it is owned by the National Trust, there have been few modern additions to the streets.
