John Donne's 'Holy Sonnet XIV' is an interpretation of the Divine Rape that dwells on the righteous soul's marriage to God. Its spiritual intensity is showcased by the victim's having remained chaste despite having been 'ravished.' Although the poem's imagery has given rise to some observations, the 'Holy Sonnet XIV' uses an apt language, is metrically jagged yet coherent and is anthropomorphic yet pious. The sonnet primarily talks of how reason can be incomplete and sometimes mistaken that it needs enlightenment from the intimate revelation of the divine being.
