Epicedes And Obsequies
Both of the above words refer to what we should describe as "elegies,"
that is, poems expressing grief at the death of a beloved person. Donne wrote
a number of such elegies besides the First Anniversary, the finest example of
which is his poem on the death of Prince Henry, who died in 1612.

The poet begins by asserting that "this Period" (the termination of the
Prince's life) is felt by both his centers (of weight and of greatness).
