Britain's National Portrait Gallery said Saturday it had raised enough money to ensure a 16th-century portrait of poet John Donne remains in the country.
The gallery said a flood of private donations had helped it raise the 1.4 million pound (US$2.6 million, euro2 million) purchase price. The gallery announced in January that it had six months to come up with the funds to buy the painting and stop it going to a private collector.
