In his study of the Trinitarian foundation of Donne's theology, Jeffrey Johnson explains that he will restrict his analysis to the Sermons because he believes that they are `the most extensive record of his mature thought' (p. x). It is not until the concluding paragraph that he admits the disadvantages of such restriction.
