ALTHOUGH there is no mirror to hand and no one watching what I am doing, while I write this review a parade of expressions will in all probability cross my features - frowns, biting of lower lip, raising of eyebrows, narrowing of eyes and the occasional smile as I recall some amusing passage in the book.

For this lesser-known work by Charles Darwin is an entertaining as well as a fascinating read.
