A pounds 2,000 travel bursary will be up for grabs for a young horticulturalist with an interest in research.

Shropshire Horticultural Society has significantly increased the Percy Thrower Trust Fund to secure the longterm future of the Institute of Horticulture's Young Horticulturist of the Year Competition.

Anyone under the age of 30 can apply for the travel bursary. Applicants undergo a gruelling competition, which tests a wide range of horticultural knowledge. Winners have studied in Ireland, New Zealand and Greenland.
