Laurence Baker does his best to ridicule Charles Darwin's views on evolution, pointing out his attitude towards race and class. Admittedly out of touch with modern attitudes, but common in the 19th century.
He was connected by marriage to the Wedgwood pottery family - among the wealthiest in the country - and was a product of his class and time.
This does not mean to say his views on evolution were wrong, which were the result of careful observation, experiment and long and careful thought over many years, before writing The Origin of Species, his greatest and most famous book.
