Robin Downs (Viewpoint, August 29) naively claims Charles Darwin's evolution is proven scientific fact.

I wonder whether he has ever read 'On the Origin of Species'.

What of Darwin's mechanism of inheritance, which he called 'gemmules'?

No-one in their right mind would support such an idea today, as it has been proved way off the mark.

What of Darwin's savages? No-one in their right mind today would think of native peoples as inferior savages.

Science has proved this notion to be wholly wrong.

What again of his belief the poor and ignorant working classes were fulfilling their proper ...
