A team of maritime archaeologists believe they have uncovered the remains of HMS Beagle, the 10-gun ship Charles Darwin served on as a naturalist. The researchers, headed by Dr Robert Prescott of the University of St Andrews, were concentrating their efforts on the Essex marshes where she was used as a coastguard watch vessel. Radar technology revealed signs of the 27m-long brig-sloop buried in 18 feet of mud near Potton Island. (February 28th)
