CRESTON -- In James Fenimore Cooper's famous novel, he told the story of the "Last of the Mohicans."

That work was historical fiction, but it can be written with certainty who the "Last of the Roy-hicans" is.

Out of all the thousands of athletes the late Roy Bates coached before his death at age 88 in 2004, Norwayne senior Ashley Wallace will go down as the last active high school player.
