Chapter 12

Hawkeye has just shot one of the Hurons with "Killdeer." He advances into
the midst of the Hurons accompanied by his two Indian friends (Chingachgook
and Uncas). There is "general combat." Little by Little, the Indians are
subdued. One Indian seizes Cora and prepares to scalp her, but Uncas rescues
her. The Big Sarpent and Magua have a long and fierce battle. Magua suddenly
appears to die, and he falls over backwards to the ground, as if he were
