Accompanying the esteemed Shakespearean actor for a production of William Congreve's Love for Love was a troupe of distinguished actors in the leading roles, including Albert Finney, Lynn Redgrave and Geraldine McEwan.

"The National Theatre's first appearance in Belfast was a memorable occasion," recounted an enthusiastic Belfast Telegraph reviewer in the next day's edition.

"Any preference that some may have had for Othello or a more modern work was soon swept away by the zest with which the famous comedy was acted."
