I REFER to Dr Lourdesamy's enlightening piece on plagiarism (NST, Aug 17).

Plagiarism is nothing new. It was common in the old days. Even Sir Winston Churchill, master of the written word and coiner of phrases, was not free of the habit.
"Hell knows no fury as a woman scorned" was actually lifted from Byron's poem "The Age of Bronze", and William Congreve's couplet "Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned/Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned," ...
