John Eccles's Ode to St. Cecilia's Day was written in 1701 to a libretto by none other than William Congreve, but has never been performed in modern times.
The premiere of this opus will take place tonight, not in London but in Jerusalem. This is the end result of a project in which soprano Evelyn Tubb and lutenist Anthony Rooley have been working with local singers and musicians in a type of master class, which this time around has a performance at its conclusion.
